Dear Editor,
An interesting CBS 60 Minutes broadcast was seen on Sunday, June 14, 09 and it is my hope that many under CARICOM’s umbrella digested what was transmitted.
A partial segment of the broadcast featured two to three women of European origin who are presently awaiting final word from the courts on their deportation status.
They are all wives married to US soldiers who died in the on going wars in the Middle East and because of their present status, which is being “widowed,” the system doesn’t guarantee provisions for them. However, the children born in the US are allowed to stay.
My understanding of the broadcast is that no non national is exempted when facing deportation.
The saga in Barbados to my mind is that Guyanese and other regional nationals are the targets and nationals from further destinations are exempted from the enforced laws.
Interesting, isn’t it?
Listen carefully, it is my contention and belief that Guyana will eventually see a boom in business trade when the Takutu Bridge is fully commissioned and it will expand to our South American brothers gradually.
Just as a reminder, we now have a Mexican Consulate in this corner and that is indeed another channel to network with other business trade partners over in Mexico. T. Pemberton
