Guyanese distance athletes in Trinidad and Tobago managed one podium place yesterday when Kelvin Johnson placed third in the Ribbons of Hope 5km Road Run.
Johnson finished behind Pamenos Ballantyne (15:11) and Richard Jones (15:18) in that order with a time of 15:24. Guyana’s Lionel D’Andrade and (15:42) and Dennis Horatio (16:20) were fourth and fifth respectively.
Johnson told Kaieteur Sport yesterday that the sun was very hot and conditions were not ideal for him. He said that he is now working on his speed drills and before next month, he is expected to kick fully into stride.
“I just started doing some speed work and it was very hot. I just took my own time and tuck in behind them (Ballantyne and Jones). By next month we will start beating them,” Johnson promised from Trinidad yesterday.
Meanwhile, Rawle Greene and Alisha Fortune are expected to compete at the Austin Sealey Memorial meet today in Barbados.
The two athletes have gone there to attempt qualification for the upcoming Caribbean Games.
