The Guyana Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS is now finalizing arrangements for the adjudication of its 2009 Awards for Business Excellence and for the presentation of those awards at a formal ceremony next month.
The Coalition issued a Call For Entries to its membership and to the wider business community in April. Now it awaits the nominations of those individual companies and their leaders who have made contributions in the fight against HIV/AIDS in Guyana.
The GBCHA, which was launched at the end of May last year, is a rapidly expanding alliance of organizations dedicated to combating the HIV/AIDS epidemic, through unique skills, expertise and contributions of the public/private sector in Guyana.
Companies have been demonstrating great creativity in designing programmes aimed at their staff, their customers and at the community in which they operate.
Through awards, the Coalition has been able to identify and promote new examples of best practices in helping to reduce and prevent HIV/AIDS in the workplace and community.
The 2009 Awards for Business Excellence and Dinner will be held on Saturday, June 20 at the Pegasus Hotel.
Awards are being presented in five categories:
1) for work place programmes
2) for core competency
3) for supply chain utilization
4) for community investment and
5) for advocacy and individual leadership.
At last year’s ceremony awards were presented to Scotia Bank (work place programme), Guyana Rice Development Board (core competency), Youth Challenge Guyana (community), John Fernandes Ltd (support for employees living with HIV/AIDS) and to Mr. Jagnarine Singh and Ms Patricia Isaacs of the Guyana Rice Development Board (advocacy and individual leadership).
