Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony and Philomena Sahoye-Shury are the new members of the People’s Progressive Party Central Committee, leaving Moses Nagamootoo out of the party hierarchy once again.
Kaieteur News was told that this decision was made last Saturday when the party’s leadership met. The committee selected the two people with the next highest number of votes coming out of the Congress last year.
One of the vacancies was created by the death of former president Janet Jagan.
Last year Dr. Anthony scored high at the party’s congress but did not make it in the Central Executive.
Ali Baksh, Komal Chand, Navin Chandrapal, Clinton Collymore, Bharrat Jagdeo, Roger Luncheon, Zulfikar Mustapha, Harripersaud Nokta, Reepu Daman Persaud, Robert Persaud, Ulric Ramanah, Ralph Ramkarran, Clement Rohee and Gail Teixeira are executive members.
President Jagdeo scored the highest number of votes followed closely by Dr Roger Luncheon, Clement Rohee, Gail Teixeira, Janet Jagan, Robert Persaud and Ralph Ramkarran.
Irfaan Ali, Ganga Persaud and Pauline Sukhai were selected as candidate members to the executive committee. This elected executive will decide on the 2011 Presidential candidate.
