“Up to today (yesterday) whole day I looking fuh he all over…all over ah deh walking looking fuh me brother,” said distraught sister.
The worst fears of Sandra Ramotar, an Albouystown woman who has been searching for her missing brother for just over a week, were realized as the man was discovered floating in a canal located north of Le Repentir cemetery yesterday.
The woman, upon arriving at the scene, immediately broke down in tears when she recognized her brother.
The man was face down in the canal and his body was bloated. There were visibly signs of decay suggesting that his body was in there for some time now.
Deonarine Ishmael, also known as Dennis Persaud, of Lot 152, James and Non Pariel Street, Albouystown, was clad in his shirt only and the sister was at a loss for words. She refused to hazard a guess why he would be in the cemetery in the first place.
His trousers and underwear were discovered close to the body suggesting that he may have gone there to answer a call of nature.
Scores of nearby residents converged on the scene to get a glimpse of the body.
They all lamented the fact that the place was overrun with thick foliage whilst referring to the $10M per month that was allocated to the Mayor and City Council.
Ishmael was missing ever since last week Sunday and the woman opined that he would have had to leave the house in the wee hours of the morning.
She recalled that her brother was hospitalised on April 6, last and was discharged on April 15, but maintained he was not of unsound mind. She could not explain the rational behind his actions.
A friend had reported seeing Ishmael during the Sunday he went missing in the vicinity of Meadow Bank.
The friend left for a few minutes and when he returned, Ishmael was gone.
Ramotar recalled, also, that her brother was subsequently seen walking along Broad Street, Charlestown, but since then, there has been no further trace.
“Up to today (yesterday) whole day today I looking fuh he all over…all over ah deh walking looking fuh me brother,” the sobbing woman said recalling that she has been searching ever conceivable place since he disappeared including the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Ishmael’s sibling said that he was still physically weak from his recent illness.
She noted that he had worked with the City Council for several years but had to retire recently after he was struck on his leg and suffered an injury. He was surviving on his monthly pension.
