Police in New Amsterdam on Friday evening last arrested whom they suspect to be the main person behind the Demerara Mutual Life Insurance robbery which occurred earlier this week at Main and Wapping Lane, New Amsterdam.
According to reports, acting on information received, police ranks swooped down on a location in New Amsterdam where they made the arrest.
Meanwhile a source close to the investigation said that an identification parade will be held tomorrow and charges are likely to be instituted.
On Wednesday last, a lone gunman posing as a customer entered the Demerara Mutual Life Insurance Company building at Main and Wapping Lane, a stone’s throw from Central Police Station, in New Amsterdam.
After enquiring about an absent member from the cashier on duty, the ‘customer’ began to exit, but halfway out he retracted his steps and pulled out a gun from a black bag which he was carrying.
After holding the cashier at gunpoint and demanding that she hand over the cash, the gunman made good his escape with some $84,000 in cash.
