On Wednesday last, a lone gunman posing as a customer entered the Demerara Mutual Life Insurance Company building at Main and Wapping Lane, a stone’s throw from Central Police Station, in New Amsterdam.
After enquiring about an absent member from the cashier on duty, the ‘customer’ began to exit, but halfway out he retracted his steps and pulled out a gun from a black bag which he was carrying.
After holding the cashier at gunpoint and demanding that she hand over the cash, the gunman made good his escape with some $84,000 in cash.
