Guyana team suffer mixed fortunes at Florida Cup 2009

American teams Orlando and New York captured top honours in the respective Masters and All Star segments of the Florida Cup 20/20 cricket competition contested recently in the new and beautiful Cricket stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in the United States.
In the Masters segment; Guyana won one game and lost three. Playing against Orlando, the host batted first and made 155 for 5 of 20 overs. J. Ballie 26 and T. Bacchus 18.
Bowling for Guyana Pradeep Abdul took 3 for 32. Guyana were restricted for 113 for 5 in 20 overs. Sheik Mohamed 38 and Derick Ramoutar 26 led the chase. Bowling for Orlando, T. Bacchus picked up 2 for 24 to lead their victory.
Guyana turned in a better performance in their second game. Better Hope batting first were 135 all out in 19.5 overs. R. Paul 42 and K. Sanichar 21 were the principal scorers.
Bowling for Guyana, Jailall Deodass took 2 for 28 and Ricky Deonarain 2 for 18.
Guyana replied with 136 for 7 of 19.1 overs. Ricky Deonarain hammered 51 not out and Sheik Mohamed supported with 38. Bowling for Better Hope Masters, Raj Paul took 2 for 10.
Guyana lost to South Florida in their third match. Guyana batting first made 141 for 7 off 20 overs. Derick Ramoutar 48, Ricky Deonarain 34, Sheik Mohamed 26 were the main batsmen. Bowling for South Florida T. Roopnarine took 2 for 18. South Florida made 142 for 7 off 19.5 overs in reply. Farouk Moula hit 48 not out, R. Sing 26. Bowling for Guyana Unos Baksh took 2 for 13. Guyana lost to New York Masters. Guyana batting first made 222 for 6 of 20 overs. Ricky Deonarain hitting the tournament highest individual score of 113 not out, Derick Ramoutar supported with 28. Bowling for New York Long Horn took 2 for 34, J. Chan 1 for 26.
New York Masters replied with 224 for 8 off 19.2 overs. Tony Fernandez the tournament highest scorer with over 300 runs and man-of-the-series made 82 and Paul 71. Bowling for Guyana Ricky Deonarain took 2 for 26 and Rahaman Khan took 2 for 34. In the final between New York Masters and Orlando; New York Masters batting first made 154 of 20 overs. Tony Fernandez made 62. Orlando won match with 2 wickets down in the 18th over.
In the finals of the All Star tournament between South Florida and New York; New York batting first made 179 for 8 of 20 overs. South Florida made 146 for 7 of 20 overs to hand New York victory.
