GRFU to hold AGM on Sunday February 1
The Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) will hold its Annual General Meeting for the election of its Executive Committee at 11:00am on Sunday February 1 at the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club.
Outgoing President, Noel Adonis, and Snr. Vice President, Robin Roberts, will be standing again for election.
The Rugby Union has had an extremely successful year, concluding with the National Men’s & Women’s Sevens Teams winning the Caribbean Championships held in the Bahamas in October.
Five of Guyana’s Sevens players are short listed for selection to the Rugby West Indies Team which will be participating in the IRB Sevens World Series in Hong Kong from March 27-29.
Guyana successfully hosted the Caribbean Women’s Fifteens Championships in May last year with the National Women’s team playing undefeated and placing second in the tournament to Trinidad & Tobago
Guyana’s Men’s National Fifteens side placed 2nd in the Caribbean to Trinidad & Tobago in the NAWIRA 2011 RWC Fifteens Qualifier held in Cayman in April.
Guyana’s Men’s National U-19 Team, having held the Caribbean U-19 Championships for three previous years in succession, placed fourth in last year’s Qualifying Championship in Barbados.
A Guyana Women’s All-Star Sevens side wound up the past year winning the Trinidad & Tobago Enthusiasts International Sevens tournament.
The union will seek more success in 2009 with the new executive. More work in schools is expected to be a key part of their activity. The GRFU currently enjoys a successful schools programme that has produced many of the current crop of players.
