There has been a slight deviation to the fixtures of the K&S football tournament and head of the K&S organization Kashif Muhammad is fuming at this unforeseen development.
In a press conference convened at his Irving Street office yesterday he informed members of the media that the K-Brans Football Club of Trinidad and Tobago would no longer arrive in Guyana to engage the Mahaica Determinators Football Club in a first round match scheduled for the Plaisance Community Centre Ground, this afternoon.
To this end, in keeping with the rules of the tournament that states, ‘In the event of such an eventuality, the first team on stand-by will receive the option to fill the slot,’ the organizers have given the go ahead for the Santos Football team to replace the Trinidadian team.
Muhammad disclosed that K-Brans were to have been in action on Wednesday 17 but they experienced flight problems forcing his organization to postpone the match to this evening. “I think this is a very unprincipled move especially since K-Brans had given us all assurances that they would have been in Guyana to participate in this afternoon’s match,” a distraught Muhammad disclosed.
Based on this commitment Muhammad said his executives went ahead and made the relevant arrangements. He said that these arrangements included booking airline tickets as well as hotel accommodations.
He did not give details pertaining to the new arrangements with the airline but Muhammad disclosed that the K&S organization is strapped with a non-refundable expense, paid to the hotel to facilitate the Trinidadian team. He said also that he had dispatched two busses to the Cheddie Jagan International Airport, twice, to receive the team but the footballers were not on the flight.
He said that he had already lodged fifty percent of the hotel bill and was recently informed that this amount was non-refundable. The K&S boss also revealed that his group had expected a team of around 26 players.
Muhammad has since approached the executive of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) to mediate on behalf of the K&S organization. “We expect the GFF to make contact with the football authorities in Trinidad in an effort to thrash out this matter,” Kashif disclosed.
Meanwhile, Muhammad disclosed that the Santos football team has already been informed of the new development and is rearing to go. He said that while on standby, the footballers had engaged in several matches and their eventual inclusion into the K&S tournament should present no problems for them.
He said that football fans could look forward to an exciting match this evening.
The recent rains had left the Plaisance facility in a sodden state. Quizzed on an alternative site for the match should the ground remain in an unplayable state, Muhammad said that a team from the K&S organization would inspect the ground and then make a determination on its viability.
“In the event that the ground remains unplayable, we will utilize the other option of hosting the game at the Mckenzie Sports Club Ground,” he intimated. Muhammad was also asked to comment on any possible disruptions caused by the no show of K-Brans. “These are incidents that present opportunities for us to evaluate the tournament and make it better,” he philosophized.
