Dear Editor,
I have noted Mr. Robert Corbin’s press release attempting to suggest that the main reason for my removal from Parliament is prolonged absence. This cannot be further from the truth.
Mr. Corbin alleges that the only time I attended Parliament in the last year was on the last day of consideration of the 2008 estimates. Here are the straight facts:
The official record will show I was in Parliament on a number of occasions between March and August 2008. Thereafter, I, like a number of other MPs, left the jurisdiction for the Parliamentary recess.
Instead of attempting to mislead the public, Mr. Corbin should explain his policy towards me during the period March to August 2008, when I was available and fully prepared to perform my Parliamentary duties.
Mr. Corbin removed me from all Parliamentary committees, and even stopped inviting me to meetings of the PNCR Parliamentary group.
According to him, I was no longer a part of his team. To reinforce this, he put me to sit at number 22, the very last seat in the PNCR lineup.
Since the last elections, I introduced a number of motions in the National Assembly, and I was always ready to respond to the call of the Whip, even at short notice, to perform any task.
During the last Parliament, I served as the first chairman of the Economic Services Sectoral Committee, and represented the PNCR position with vigour on a number of other Parliamentary committees.
Robert Corbin’s actions to deny me the opportunity to do Parliamentary work, even before the disciplinary committee had made a determination, are a clear indication that his actions against me were not premised on the recommendations of the committee. They were motivated by his innate undemocratic style of leadership. James McAllister
