Teacher cited at centre of student abuse
The parents of a 12-year-old student of Ann’s Grove Community High School are insisting that a teacher be placed before the court for wounds she allegedly inflicted on the child last Thursday.
The child, Kenisha Soso, of Dochfour, a first form student of the school, received a beating from the teacher that has left severe marks about her body.
Her parents have since reported the matter to the police, and a medical certificate has been tendered, but so far no action has been taken against the teacher.
Speaking with this newspaper yesterday, Lydia Alleyne, the child’s grandmother, with whom she lives, said that it all started when her granddaughter picked up some money belonging to another student and took it home.
According to Alleyne, another student had dropped a $1000 bill, which her granddaughter picked up and concealed.
When questioned by the teacher, the child initially denied, and later took the money home and showed it to her mother.
The mother then took her daughter back to the school and returned the cash.
“The teacher spoke to me so nicely. Then I left Kenisha in school,” the woman said.
While at home, Alleyne said, someone alerted her that the 12-year-old was coming down the road crying.
When questioned, the child told her grandmother that she was beaten by the teacher.
According to Alleyne, other students of the school revealed that Kenisha was beaten until she fell unconscious.
The teacher then had to pour water on her to revive her.
Many parents turned up at the school on Thursday to protest the action of the teacher and the apparent callousness of the school’s administration.
Alleyne told this newspaper that when the headmistress was contacted, she said that she was unaware.
“I had to show her Kenisha skin,” Alleyne told this newspaper.
She said that she then went to the Clonbrook Police Station, which referred her to a medical institution.
However, the police took no statement, she added.
“I want this teacher to go to court, because you can’t do this to people child,” Alleyne said.
An official complaint will be launched with the Ministry of Education this week.
