West Indies under-19 player Steven Jacobs celebrated his Guyana senior one-day team call-up with a brilliant unbeaten 53 and shared in an unfinished 117-run partnership with Shemroy Barrington (56) as Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) made light work of Mavericks on Friday in the latest round of action in the Demerara zone of Guyana’s national 20/20 first division cricket competition.
In sweltering heat at the MSC ground, Jacobs, who has played two first class matches for his country, smashed five fours from 56 balls in his 53 not out while Barrington, a surprise omission from the Guyana one-day team stand-by list, stroked five fours and a six in his undefeated 51-ball 56 to spur MSC to 117-0 in 18.4 overs against West Demerara side Mavericks, who reached 116-8 when their 20 overs expired.
Julius Williams hit three sixes and a four in an 11-ball 29, while Mukesh Balgobin (21) lent some support as national all-rounder Deon Ferrier had 3-7 with his off-spin and left-arm spinner Damien Vantull took 2-29.
At Bourda, GCC beat the Guyana Defence Force by nine wickets in a match reduced to 17 overs per side because the soldiers turned up late for the contest.

GDF reached 85-7 as Gavin Singh and West Indies player Leon Johnson took two wickets each for GCC, who were without Test player Ramnaresh Sarwan who opted not to play after GDF failed to arrive for the scheduled 14:00hrs start.
The hosts reached 86-1 in 14 overs with Johnson, who opened the batting, making an unbeaten 42 with six fours. Former Guyana youth player Vishal Singh hit three boundaries in his 35 not out.
And at DCC, the home team whipped GNIC by four wickets after restricting GNIC to 129-9 and replying with 131-6 in 16.1 overs.
First-class fast bowler Rayon Griffith hit 22 for GNIC as off-spinner Denis Squires (2-25) and Guyana one-day selectee Christopher Barnwell (2-18) bowled well for the Queenstown side.
National under-19 left-handed opener Trevon Griffith struck five fours and a six in 37 while the talented Barnwell made 35 with four fours and a six. Former Test off-spinner and Chairman of the West Indies selection panel Clyde Butts took 2-17 in a losing effort for GNIC.
