Thirty-five-year-old Bryon Fredericks, of Grant Cullen, Pomeroon River, who has been charged with being an unlicensed master, secured $5,000 bail, after he appeared before Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty, yesterday at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court.
According to the police, on October 22, last, in the Pomeroon River, Fredericks, at the time operating his brother’s 200HP Yamaha outboard engine, was traveling on the right side of the river in the vicinity of Martindale, Lower Pomeroon, when he collided with a wooden Yamaha-powered vessel traveling in the opposite direction.
The pilot was Mignon Alphonso, of Grant Providence, Lower Pomeroon River.
As a result of the collision, Alphonso’s nephew, 13-year-old Brad Cofosa, who was traveling with her, sustained a fractured left wrist and injuries to his head. He was subsequently hospitalized at the Charity Public Hospital, but has since been released.
Counsel Haimraj Raijkumar, who represented Fredericks, said that his client who is a first offender is a farmer. Fredericks will make his next appearance on November 17, at Charity.
