Lennox Allen (right) ducks out of range after one of Howard Eastman’s attacks during their sparring session yesterday at the FYF gym in Albouystown.

The time for talking is almost over and come Saturday night Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis and Howard the ‘Battersea Bomber’ Eastman will have to shelve their pre-fight bravado and transfer their boasts to the ‘square jungle.’
The time has arrived to produce or perish. Both fighters are hard at work at different gyms in the Albouystown area.
Eastman is currently whipping himself into shape at the Forgotten Youth Foundation (FYF) Boxing Gym while Lewis is rounding off his sessions less than half mile away, at the gym named in his honour.
Yesterday afternoon, before a fair sized crowd, Eastman was in a devastating mood. Those lucky enough to have been at the FYF were quick to make up their minds on where to cast their wagers.
After sparring four rounds with Lennox Allen, the ‘Battersea Bomber’ engaged Joel McRae and after two rounds of intense pressure, left him, sprawled in the neutral corner.
McRae cited exhaustion and was on the verge of calling it a day when Eastman managed to cajole him back into the fray. McRae only assented after Eastman fervently promised to reduce the force of his attacks.
Earlier, Lennox Allen and Eastman went after each other in a four round slugfest that forced many of the spectators to rethink where to place their bets.
While McRae proved to be slippery, dodging Eastman’s punches, Allen chose to attack Eastman’s body, periodically switching to the head. Eastman, for his part did well in staving off Allen’s attacks and countering with stiff combinations of his own.
Allen, obviously calling on his recently acquired skills, from his sojourn with Bernard ‘The Executioner’ Hopkins in the USA, slammed a vicious right hook to Eastman’s body. The ‘Battersea Bomber’ blocked and retaliated with several well timed salvoes.
“He has decent power,’ Allen later confided in this reporter, when asked to comment on Eastman’s prowess. “He is persistent and delivers those combinations with pinpoint accuracy,” he continued.
When asked to make a prediction Allen did not hesitate, “Sixhead will sleep,” he predicted. “The fight will not pass four rounds.”
Allen said that Lewis is not as mentally strong as he used to be, a trait he will find advantageous in the bout. Allen then compared Dalton with Eastman and contended that the latter is a far more ominous proposition than the former.
Meanwhile, Eastman’s trainers, former Fecarbox junior/lightweight champion, Joseph Murray and Seibert Blake are both rooting for their charge. Murray believes that Eastman’s experience will stand him in good stead. He measured the international exposure of both principals and predicted that Eastman has the distinct edge.
“I do not think the fight will end in a knockout but I am confident that Eastman will win,” Murray predicted.
Kaieteur Sport will be assessing the final phase of both boxers’ training sessions to enable the pundits to make informed choices of their winner.
