Coconut Boy suffers first lost, Sequins claims feature event at Rising Sun

The Rising Sun Turf in collaboration with Friends Incorporated held its One day horserace meet last Sunday at the Rising sun Turf Club. There were a number of exciting races with Coconut Boy suffering its first defeat, while Sequins powered through to claim the feature race.

The 2 yr old event, which was sponsored by Ansa Mc Al Trading and had a first prize of $150,000 and the Ansa Mc Al Trophy at stake, produced one of the biggest upsets in the horseracing circle with the previously unbeaten Coconut Boy being relegated into second place by Pixie Fier Of the Custom Racing Stable with jockey Paul Delph in the saddle. Pixie Fier led from start to finish and won by about two lengths.
The feature C class event, sponsored by Banks DIH limited with a purse of $300,000 and the Banks DIH trophy on offer, was taken by Sequins which won easily, leading from gate to post to win by some eight lengths in the end.
In second position was Spin and Squeeze, with Day light reprise coming in third.
In another co-feature event, the three-year-old Open which had $200,000 for the winner and was sponsored by Demerara Distilleries Limited, saw the Gap of the Customs racing stable with jockey Paul Delph aboard, winning the event with a convincing run, out distancing old rival and pre-race favourite Jumbo Joy, while Tropical Passion came third.
The F class 1300m race, which had $120,000 on offer for the winner, saw Fairy Tale Romance of the Jumbo Jet stable with jockey Colin Ross on mount, winning from Laura lee in Flight and One of a Kind.
Sacrificed of the Rumours Racing stable took full advantage of the conditions to dominate its opponent in the G class and lower gallop, sponsored by Demerara Mutual Life and Professional Guards Service, to thunder away with the $100,000 first prize ahead of Blondie in the two horse contest.
Kavinci of the Jumbo Jet stable had things its way in winning the Bank of Nova Scotia sponsored I and lower event and $80,000 at stake from, Blondie and Wonder Lite over 1100m.
The J and K race saw New World with veteran jockey May May in the saddle giving a lesson to his opponents to win ahead of Lenny O Hallo and Red Bull to collect the $70,000 first prize in the 1100m race. This event was sponsored by Neal and Massey Group of Companies and the National Milling Company.
Red Bull returned to capture the L class event from Lenny O Hallo and Blessed Child to take the $60,000 winners prize in the 1100m sprint which was sponsored by Hand-in-Hand Insurance Company and John Fernandes Limited.
Customer racing stable was declared the champion stable, while Jockey Paul Delph riding out of the Customs racing stable copped the champion jockey title with trainer Tillack Dharry also of the Customs racing stable crowned the champion trainer.
Over two million dollars were up for the taking and the event saw over 45 horses taking part.
