DEAR EDITOR
I write to draw attention to two newspaper reports titled “Toucan Suites owner awarded $125M” and “Judge grants $125M damages to Guest House Owner’.
In one of the newspaper reports it is stated: “In the course of his judgment, the Judge said it was clear that members of the Security Forces, the Police and the army resorted to undue and unseeming haste in the destruction of the building – the company’s livelihood”.
In the other newspaper report, it is stated: “Referring to police forces in the US as perhaps the hastiest in the world, the Judge said the local Force acted more hastily in reacting to Linden London”
I wish to point out that if Justice Singh was quoted correctly in the two dailies, that in his view the Police and army acted in haste, then this is a most inexpert opinion insofar as security forces’ tactics and strategy are concerned.
This inexpert opinion seems to have influenced judgment on the matter. There are many who view such inexpert statements with apprehension and disappointment.
In closing, I draw attention to recent international experiences in the United States of America and United Kingdom, where Police tactics and strategies were executed in not dissimilar situations. Jinnely Totoram
