Five days after a 20-man Guyana under-17 cricket squad was selected by the National junior selectors, the squad was released on Tuesday after being approved by Acting President of the Guyana Cricket Board Alvin Johnson.
The squad which was selected from performances in the CLICO Inter-County two-day competition, which was won by Demerara and three 50-overs trials matches at the DCC ground has no major surprises.
It includes Essequibo opening batsman Herell Greene who scored the most runs in the Inter County competition with 118 runs including 71 against Demerara in the opening round and Demerara off-spinner Ricardo Devers who captured 13 wickets in the inter county tournament including 7-37 against Berbice in the final.
Demerara Skipper Dexter Solomon, who was adjudged the best wicketkeeper in the Inter County competition, has been named as Captain while despite his run of low scores in the Inter-County tournament and the trials, talented opening batsman and former Guyana under-15 skipper Harrinarine Chattergoon, the younger brother of Test batsman Sewnarine Chattergoon, is also predictably in the squad.
The squad is expected to begin weekend encampment sessions in the City shortly before being reduced to 14 for this year’s regional U-17 tournament in Trinidad in December.
The 20-man squad:-D. Solomon (Captain), H. Chattergoon, H. Greene, Q. Ovid-Richardson, J. Odle, D. Roopnarine, D. Fernandes, C. Pestano, J. LaFleur, A. Stoll, S. Daniels, A. Khan, K. Joseph, R. Devers, R. Beaton, T. Carmichael, S. Hardial, K. Fredericks, K. Crosse, A. Habib.
