A hunting expedition went horribly wrong for a 40-year-old man, who was accidentally wounded when the shotgun he was carrying went off, sending dozens of pellets into his right side abdomen.
Ashford Jacobs, of Moraikobai Mission, Mahaicony Creek, is in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he was rushed following the incident which occurred at about 0:600 hours yesterday.
According to reports, Jacobs had borrowed his father-in-law’s shotgun to go hunting for accouri in the backlands of Mahaicony.
A police press release stated that during the expedition, Jacobs reportedly stumbled on the stump of a tree, and this resulted in a round being discharged from the firearm that he had in his possession.
It is not too clear how persons learnt about the mishap, but this newspaper understands that the captain of a nearby Amerindian mission was alerted, and he contacted a rural constable from the area, who placed the injured man into a boat and took him to the Mahaicony Hospital.
However, his condition was so severe that he was transferred to the city for further medical attention.
