A man accused of stealing several items and another individual who is accused of receiving the booty have both been remanded to prison.
The men, Devon Herbert Clarke and Oswald Andrews, made their appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday. Clarke was read a simple larceny charge by Magistrate Priya Beharry.
He is accused of stealing 129 packets of cheese, valued at $80,000; a quantity of corned beef valued $28,000 and a number of other items, totalling $421,947, property of Andrew King, between August 25 and 26.
Clarke pleaded not guilty to the charge. On the other hand, Oswald Andrews was charged with receiving stolen items. It is alleged that on August 28, Andrews assisted, relieved and received the items from Clarke, knowing the same was stolen.
He also pleaded not guilty.
Police prosecutor Denise Griffith told the court that, on August 26, the virtual complainant noticed the items missing from his premises and made a report to the police. Following investigations, Clarke was arrested, and a further probe led police to Andrews, who revealed some of the items, which he claimed were given to him by Clarke.
The prosecutor further objected to bail, after informing the court that Clarke is no stranger to the court.
Both men were refused bail, and are expected to make their next court appearance on September 27.
