Several employees of the Mayor and City Council (M&CC) were yesterday attacked by a swarm of Africanised bees while working in South Georgetown.
The M&CC is finally preparing for Carifesta X in North-South Ruimveldt District, Georgetown. The workers are currently involved in land clearing and drainage and irrigation projects along Aubrey Barker Road.
The attack came at around 10:15hrs. The bees were occupying a tree that was in the bushes that the workers had targeted for clearing in a location between Stevedore Housing Scheme and the Tucville Bridge.
Passing vehicles were affected by the bee raid and drivers were forced to stop until the coast was clear. The labourers later burnt the tree, producing smoke which also affected commuters.
The residents in that area had been accusing the M&CC of ignoring some of the streets in North Ruimveldt, choosing instead to pay special attention to Festival City since it is a part of Carifesta X, 2008.
“Is good for them; the damn bees right to chase them. The Mayor only know this area when they got show!” said an aggravated resident of Stevedore Scheme.
A passenger in a minibus that was on the scene of the bee attack told Kaieteur News that he hopes it would rain for Carifesta and flood Festival City.
The roads in Stevedore Housing Scheme have been in a poor state for over seven years and the M&CC is currently bypassing them.
