Dear Editor,
So GECOM continues to be accused by politicians of sloth in the management of the current house-to-house registration exercise?
I recall that GECOM had responded to a similar accusation from the PPP/C indicating that any perceived delay in the conduct of the exercise would have been because of the need for thoroughness and accuracy.
In fact, one needs to appreciate the wisdom in GECOM’s push for thoroughness, given that in the past it was the politicians and not the citizenry which challenged the accuracy of past voters lists, which as we all know is derived from the registration process.
Please allow me to point out that it would be the very politicians who are accusing GECOM of sloth who would lambaste GECOM if the new national register of registrants, or voters’ lists, to be produced from it were to be deficient.
I would strongly suggest that the politicians allow GECOM, as the mandatory organisation, to get on with its work without unnecessary distractions.
