CPL dusted and done in Guyana but de problems remain

(Kaieteur News) – Dem boys seh now that the Guyana leg of the CPL done and gone, is time fuh tek a lil look at some things before the cricket people come back and tell we how successful everything was. Because, according to dem boys, if success means plenty people buying tickets and then spending half the match trying to enter de stadium, then Guyana got a world record.

Dem boys seh the first thing you notice is that when the match supposed to start, the majority of spectators nah seated. The first ball getting bowled while some spectators still negotiating with traffic, parking, security and the geography of Providence.

By the time the majority of people finally reach dem seats, the batsman might already hit a six, the bowler might already bowl three wides, and somebody might already get run out. Dem boys seh Guyana got a new system now: you buy a ticket for the whole match and get admission to whatever portion of it you manage to reach in time fuh.

This raises questions about punctuality, traffic management, parking and crowd control. If thousands of people are expected at a stadium at roughly the same time, surely somebody must calculate where the vehicles going, where the people going and how long it taking dem to get from the car to the seat. But dem boys seh the biggest joke is reserved for the elderly. Imagine an elderly spectator with a ticket for the Orange Stand managing to park on Stadium Road. Instead of entering through the Stadium Road entrance, the person is apparently expected to walk almost a mile, enter through the western gates, pass through the main entrance and then trek all the way to the Orange Stand.

Dem boys seh by the time the poor pensioner reach the seat, he might need a pension from the government to recover. Why can’t the Stadium Road entrance be used for people with tickets for the stands closest to that entrance? Is there some secret cricket law saying spectators must complete a qualifying marathon before watching the CPL?

Then de PoPo stopping people from standing near de rails of de stands. Dem boys agree with this because dem does block de people wah seated in de lower rows. And de PoPo does ask you to move if dem see you standing near de rails.

But deh gat a bald head man who is always be pictured standing in front by the rails and nobody ain’t asking he to move. How come? The lesson is simple. Before cricket returns, the authorities need to get the logistics right. Cricket should test the players, not the spectators’ patience, stamina knowledge of geography and view.
