Bandit nabbed, charged
(Kaieteur News) – Alex Pickering, the bandit who bolted with an undisclosed amount of cash after a female cashier grabbed his gun during a robbery at Hinds Gas Station in Linden last Friday, has been charged for the crime.
Reports are that he was arrested in Linden on Tuesday night. Pickering was recently released from prison for armed robbery. He was sentenced in absentia in 2018 for a robbery, which he had committed at Puruni Landing, Region Seven in 2017.

He was arrested and charged but the Bartica Magistrate Court had granted him bail and he never showed up for court again. A year later, he was nabbed in Linden and jailed after the court sentenced him to five years in prison in absentia.
Recently released from prison, he robbed the Hinds Gas Station last Friday. Police told Kaieteur News that the bandit entered the gas station around 19:15hrs. with a gun and demanded that the cashier hand over all the cash. She took the cash from the counter and handed it to him. However, while the bandit sorted the money, he placed his firearm on the counter when the cashier grabbed it and pointed it to him. Realising she had the weapon, the suspect grabbed the loot and bolted for his life.
Police in a release said that he was charged in connection with armed robbery. Investigations revealed that during the incident, a female employee was allegedly robbed of $200,000 in cash while the perpetrator was armed with a firearm. A suspect was subsequently arrested and during the course of the investigation, a 9mm pistol and seven live rounds of ammunition were recovered.
The suspect has since been charged with Robbery Under Arms and Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition without being the holder of a firearm licence. He is scheduled to appear at the Linden Magistrate’s Court today to answer the charges.
