(Kaieteur News) – President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali and His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, held official talks on Tuesday as Guyana’s Head-of-State continued his three-day State Visit to Qatar.
The meeting, held at the Amiri Diwan, focused on strengthening relations between Guyana and Qatar, with particular emphasis on investment and expanding opportunities for bilateral cooperation. At the start of the official talks, the Amir welcomed President Ali and the accompanying delegation, expressing hope that the visit would further broaden the prospects for cooperation between the two countries and contribute to their mutual interests.
He expressed appreciation for the warm reception and hospitality extended to him and the Guyanese delegation, while reaffirming Guyana’s commitment to deepening relations with Qatar. He said, “Guyana is keen to strengthen cooperation relations and advance them toward further development and growth.”
The two sides discussed the state of bilateral relations and explored avenues for cooperation, particularly in investment. They also exchanged views on several regional and international issues of mutual interest. The official talks were followed by a bilateral meeting between President Ali and the Amir, during which the two leaders further exchanged perspectives on major current issues and developments. Earlier on Tuesday, the president arrived at the Amiri Diwan, where he received an official welcome and participated in a formal reception ceremony.
The head-of-state was accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hugh Todd, Guyana’s Ambassador to Qatar Safraaz Ahmad Shadood, Director of Presidential Affairs at the Office of the President Marcia Mezan Sharma, George Andrew Hallaq and other members of the official delegation.
