The egregious indignity against Opposition WIN MP, Ms. Tabitha Sarabo-Haley by the GPF
Dear Editor,
It is with a profound sense of outrage and utter disgust that I address the deplorable actions captured on video on the night of 25th August ,2026 , involving the pat-down of Opposition Member of Parliament, Ms. Tabitha Sarabo-Haley, by a male police officer. Surely this brazen and cringeworthy assault to MP Sarabo Haley’s dignity must be ceaselessly playing and replaying in Ms. Sarabo-Haley’s mind and may very well have a negative impact to her psyche.
This act is not merely a breach of protocol; it is a deliberate act of disrespect and an egregious indignity. Police standing orders are unequivocal—a female suspect must be searched by a female officer to safeguard their dignity and uphold professional standards. The apparent absence of a female officer in this instance represents either gross incompetence or, more disturbingly, a calculated decision to humiliate.
One cannot help but question the motivations behind this flagrant violation. Was this a contrived situation designed to besmirch the credibility of the WIN opposition? Regardless of political persuasion, Ms. Sarabo-Haley is a citizen and a woman who deserves the fundamental right to dignity. To subject her to such a degrading process in plain view, while male officers stand by, is an affront not only to her but to every female in this nation.
Editor, regardless of any simultaneous unfolding scenarios we must ask:
Why was a female officer not present? What prevented the authorities from waiting until a female officer was available, as per standard practice? This failure smacks of a seemingly deliberate strategy to intimidate and degrade. This act must be vehemently condemned by all right-thinking Guyanese. We demand a full public inquiry into this incident and immediate disciplinary action against those responsible for this blatant violation of protocol and human decency. This is a dark day for justice in our country and, call on civic society- Red Thread- etc, to vociferously condemn this wanton procedural abuse. Editor, the sad irony is that tax payers are footing the bill of ALL government agencies and employees involved.
