(Kaieteur News) – The solemn yet resolute chants of grieving families and supporters echoed along Vlissengen Road in on Tuesday, as the picketing exercise outside the Office of the President reached its seventh consecutive week. Relatives and loved ones of the victims of the tragic MV Barima tragedy gathered once again to demand urgent answers, full accountability, and justice from State authorities.
The protest drew a diverse coalition of support, bringing together tragedy survivors, grieving relatives, close friends, civil society groups, and Opposition political representatives. Demonstrators stood side-by-side, holding banners and placards emblazoned with messages insisting that the nation must never forget the events of July 18, 2026.
For those gathered, the passage of nearly two months has done little to dull the pain or dampen their resolve. Families emphasise that critical questions regarding the circumstances surrounding the tragedy remain unanswered, while efforts to retrieve and locate the missing must not be abandoned.
“The families deserve answers. The missing deserve to be found. The nation deserves accountability,” declared representatives during the peaceful demonstration. Supporters vowed to maintain their presence outside the executive office, rallying under the unyielding slogan: “No Giving Up! No Giving In!”
