(Kaieteur News) – 11-year- old Annabelle Outar is among the pupils who achieved top grades at the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) examinations. The pupil of Camille Academy Lusignan, East Coast Demerara (ECD) earned 479.91 marks at NGSA and was awarded a place at the St. Stanislaus College.
The lass also earned the 2nd highest score for her school, placing her among the top ten. She is also one of the top NGSA performers of Ms. Hadassah Payne, the school’s N.G.S.A Teacher of the year. Ms. Payne’s achieved 100% passes with her pupils performing 80% and above. Outar sang praises for her teacher.
She said “Ms. Hadassah taught us very well, she would breakdown the subjects making the terms simpler for us to understand. We also used a lot of text books which actually paid off.” She also praised her parents and tutors for their encouragement and help through her academic success.
The 11-year-old, now looks forward to attending a new school in September, as her sights set on a career in business and law.
“I always liked both of those two things and I can see myself in business or as a lawyer,” she said.
The child mother, Ashana Outar told this publication that she is very pleased with Annabelle.
She said that her daughter remained focus through her studies and participated in online classes with a private school. She was also given lessons on Saturday from Camille’s Academy, and had a personal tutor at home.
“She works by herself most of the time; she was dedicated a lot to her books. You know, whenever she had a chance, she would read something, practice the math. You know, and it was comfortable for her. She was a bit nervous coming on to the exam, but she was prepared.”
The proud mom said she often encouraged her daughter.
“When she was nervous, I told her to go and do your best and do you. Because I have a lot of confidence in you and I know you’re a child who is very hardworking and dedicated to your books,” Mrs. Outar said.
Additionally, to help the NGSA pupil remain focus on her studies, her parents ensured she owned no devices through her primary school.
“She didn’t want any device from grade one straight to grade six. Six grade she was not allowed with any electronic device. The only thing she was looking at was the television. And after the exam, both me and my husband, presented her with a cell phone, and that was her present from us,” Mrs. Outar added
Additionally, she said her daughter will be going on a trip to Suriname for the summer break before school reopens.
