Kaieteur Sports – Trinidad and Tobago played a brilliant all-round game which saw them survive multiple scares only to hand the Guyanese a big enough 24-run defeat as part of Round 1’s action yesterday in Antigua.
The Trinidadians were survivors of a scare from an effective Guyanese bowling attack, led by dynamic all-rounder Joshua Budhram who had magical returns of 4-9; and found themselves somewhat short of sufficient total.
Chris Lall was the backbone for T&T with a watchful knock of 53 (7×4) while support from Christian Ramanan (33), alongside Tariq Richards (31) headlined an ordinary batting performance.
The Guyanese trio of Micah Amsterdam (2-35), Romario Ramdehol (2-21) and Dhanesh Persaud (2-44), lent ideal support to Budhram.
Guyana found themselves in trouble during the chase, after losing top-order batters in West Indies U19 striker Shamar Apple (28) and Yannick Newton (23), which essentially left them reeling at 72-5.
All-rounder Ramdehol played a grueling hand of 41* off 82 balls (2×4 1×6) but ran out of partners which inevitably resulted in Guyana being restricted for 143 all out in 34.3 overs.
Damage with the ball for Trinidad was carried out by the trio of Daniel Holder (3-46), AmritPittiman (3-44) and Daron Dhanraj (3-20), who kept picking up wickets at crucial times of the innings. (Clifton Ross)
