(Kaieteur News) – A Congress Drive, South Ruimveldt resident identified as 33-year-old John Sampson, on Friday, was placed on $100,000 bail after he pleaded not guilty to a robbery under arms charge.
Police in a statement, said the charge relates to an incident committed on a 30-year-old housewife of Herstelling, East Bank Demerara on Thursday.
“Sampson appeared on Friday, July 3, 2026 at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court before His Worship Magistrate Dylon Bess, where the charge was read to him. He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of $100,000,” police said.
In an earlier statement, police informed the media that an investigation was launched into a robbery under arms which occurred around 13:00hrs on Thursday at Herstelling.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had left a supermarket in the area and was walking along a street when a white motorcar approached her.
“One of the suspects, who was reportedly armed with a knife, exited the vehicle, pointed the weapon at the victim and relieved her of one yellow metal chain and one yellow metal ring. During the incident, the victim sustained injuries to one of her fingers,” police added.
A report was subsequently made to the police and acting on information, the car was intercepted by ranks in Georgetown. The driver, a 33-year-old male of South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was arrested and placed into custody. The vehicle, as well as a knife were lodged, as efforts are being made to locate the other suspect.
The matter was adjourned to July 30, 2026.
