(Kaieteur News) – Ogle Airport Inc. (OAI), operators of the Eugene F. Correia International Airport, has elected a new Board of Directors while unveiling plans to invest G$204M in new infrastructure projects following a record-breaking year for domestic aviation.
The board was elected during the company’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Friday, 26th June, 2026, Ogle Airport Inc said in a press release.
The newly elected directors are: Michael O. Correia Jr. (Chairman), Anthony Mekdeci, Nicole Correia, Ronald Reece, Marcel Gaskin, Timothy Jonas and Captain Gerald Gouveia.
Addressing shareholders after his re-election as Chairman, Michael Correia Jr. said Guyana’s aviation sector continues to expand alongside the country’s rapidly growing economy.
“The year demonstrated two important realities. First, domestic aviation demand in Guyana is expanding rapidly and sustainably. Second, the airport must continue investing aggressively to keep pace with the country’s broader economic transformation,” he said.
According to the airport’s annual report, domestic operations reached unprecedented levels in 2025, with passenger traffic, aircraft movements and cargo volumes all exceeding pre-pandemic figures, the release said.
The airport handled 267,503 domestic passengers during the year—its highest ever—representing a 14.6 per cent increase over 2024. International passenger traffic totalled 73,119, a decline of 10.7 per cent from the previous year.
Correia noted that domestic landings recorded the largest single-year increase in the airport’s history, underscoring the airport’s growing role in supporting commerce, tourism, healthcare access, hinterland connectivity and national development.
He also highlighted the increasing importance of commercial revenue streams, including land development, leases and concessions, to the airport’s long-term financial sustainability.
“Modern international airports cannot rely solely on aeronautical revenue to finance the scale of infrastructure required to support sustained growth and evolving international aviation standards,” he said.
During 2025, OAI pressed ahead with several major capital works aimed at improving operational efficiency and expanding capacity. These included apron expansion, drainage upgrades, cargo infrastructure, maintenance facilities, improved roadway access, additional aircraft parking, enhanced perimeter security and terminal improvements.
Looking ahead, the company plans to undertake 11 new capital projects valued at G$204 million. The projects will focus on strengthening airport security, expanding apron space for corporate jets and further developing the airport’s commercial corridor.
The Eugene F. Correia International Airport, formerly Ogle Airport, was established in December 2001 after a consortium of local aviation operators entered into a long-term lease agreement with the Government to develop and operate a modern domestic and international airport in keeping with international aviation standards.
Since then, the airport has evolved from a small facility that once primarily served crop-dusting aircraft into one of the Caribbean’s busiest regional aviation gateways. A major expansion programme launched in 2003 paved the way for upgraded immigration and customs services, runway extensions, improved air traffic management systems and enhanced emergency response capabilities.
The airport achieved another milestone in 2009 when it was granted Port of Entry status, allowing it to process international arrivals and departures and significantly expanding Guyana’s regional and international connectivity.
OAI said it remains committed to maintaining high standards of corporate governance while continuing to expand its role as a key gateway for domestic and regional air travel in Guyana.
