(Kaieteur News) – Dem boys seh driving at midnight on the East Coast Public Road is now an exercise in patience, faith, and wondering whether the traffic light working on mood alone.
The other night, de boys was cruising home, not a soul in sight, when he reach a junction and meet a red light standing up there like it own land. No car coming from east, west, north or south. Yet the light stay red like it studying for a PhD in stubbornness.
And dem boys seh is here the real problem start. Because you got to sit down and wait, staring into the darkness like you auditioning for a horror movie. Two minutes feel like two hours when no traffic in sight. The light not detecting nothing, because it does not have no sensors. Basic technology that even a cheap alarm clock possess but somehow it missing from our traffic system like common sense in a political debate.
And while you there waiting, dem boys seh you start calculating life insurance options. Because any bandit passing by will see you as a stationary target. You can even hear your own heartbeat negotiating with fear: ‘Boss, just start moving nah!’ But the light indifferent. It green only in imagination.
Dem boys seh if inventors from abroad ever pass and see this, they would think we testing patience. Because everywhere else traffic lights talk to cars with sensors, but here our lights behaving like they in a long-distance relationship with logic—no communication, just waiting and suffering. Meanwhile fuel burning, nerves frying, and bandits smiling in the bushes like they benefitting from traffic policy.
Dem boys seh next thing you know they go install AI in everything except the traffic lights that actually need it. So we out here doing meditation at junctions, praying the red light remember it has a green side. Until then, midnight drivers must say a silent prayer while waiting fuh green
