Kaieteur Sports – With track enhancement work on the South Dakota Circuit set to wrap up shortly, the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) is planning the second round of its endurance championship for June 28.
The ‘christener’ for the new venue, which gets underway from 12:00 hrs, is expected to attract some of the country’s leading drivers and riders as competitors continue their campaigns in the 2026 circuit racing season.
Fans can look forward to an action-packed programme featuring a mix of circuit racing, motorcycle competition and track day activities, providing entertainment for both seasoned motorsport enthusiasts and newcomers to the sport.
Round Two of the Dakota 100 Championship comes on the heels of a competitive opening round and is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the championship standings. Drivers and riders will be seeking valuable points while also testing the limits of their machines on the demanding South Dakota Circuit.
The accompanying Track Day segment will offer participants the opportunity to experience the circuit in a controlled environment, allowing drivers to improve their skills, test vehicle performance and enjoy the thrill of motorsport firsthand.
The event has received support from sponsors including Castrol, GUYOIL, ENetworks and One Guyana, whose continued backing has helped strengthen local motorsport development.
Meanwhile, according to an official, track work is expected to be completed within the coming days hence the date of the endurance.
The official stated, “We will have a brand-new surface with which to get familiar with and while the layout might be the same, there are a lot of quirks for drivers to watch out for.”
“We have completely flatted the front straightway so no longer is there that dip that we have become familiar with as well as several other changes that racers are going to have to get used to.”
The official noted that with this in mind the club has organized the endurance and is also looking at unofficial practice sessions leading up to the July 12-13 GT3 Challenge De Las Americas.
