(Kaieteur News) – The alarming rise in road fatalities across Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) has claimed yet another young life along the Corentyne Coast.
Twenty-two-year-old Vinode Jeetendra Deo of Lot 126 Grant 1805, Crabwood Creek, was killed after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into an abandoned vehicle left on the roadway at Crabwood Creek, Corentyne.
Deo, a member of the Community Policing Group, had spoken with his mother just moments before the tragedy, assuring her that he was on his way home.
Speaking with Kaieteur News, his mother, Shavnie Motiram, recalled what would be her final conversation with her son.
“I was on my way home from work. I called my son to come home. He said ‘I am right in the area and I promise I am coming home just now’. Later that day I received a phone call, saying my son got in to an accident,” Motiram related.
The woman said that she promptly readied herself to head to the No. 75 Regional Hospital, Corentyne. While on the way, she received a phone call bearing grim news that her son had died.
“I said ‘no, I am coming’. When I go in I saw him motion less. And the doctors said he passed away,” the woman expressed.
Deo was her firstborn, she confirmed, noting too that she is struggling to process the reality that he is no more.
“My son was a very kind, jovial and helpful child. He never say no. Not to me, not to anyone. He was always willing and he loved his family very much.”
“Every morning my son would come and hug me and make jokes with me and I would say to him, ‘Boy when will u get married?’ he said ‘no mom not now. I have to get new car and new bike how I will drive out the girl’. I will miss my son because he was never a bad child,” she said.
