Gunmen beat, rob ministry security guard in pre-dawn raid
(Kaieteur News) – Two armed men allegedly assaulted and robbed a 57-year-old security guard during a pre-dawn raid at the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs compound at Thomas and Quamina Streets, Georgetown, police said.

The robbery reportedly occurred around 02:30hrs. today, Monday, August 31, 2026. Detectives attached to Regional Police Division 4’A’ are investigating the incident, which allegedly saw the suspects, both armed with handguns, approach the security guard while he and another guard were stationed in separate guard huts.
According to preliminary investigations, the men assaulted the victim and demanded the keys to two motorcycles parked within the compound. After the guard told them that he did not have the keys, the suspects allegedly relieved him of a cellular phone valued at $30,000 and $7,000 in cash before making good their escape. The victim raised an alarm, prompting a police response. He was subsequently taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he is receiving medical treatment. His condition is reportedly stable. Police said CCTV footage from the area will be reviewed as investigators work to identify and apprehend the suspects. Investigations are ongoing.
