NA Vendor chopped to head, robbed $250,000
(Kaieteur News) – Fifty-two-year-old Steve King, of Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, Berbice, is nursing a chop wound to his head after he was allegedly attacked by three men known to him while he was making his way home.
The incident occurred on 19th August, and King told Kaieteur News that the men not only assaulted him with cutlasses but also robbed him of $250,000.
“I coming home (Wednesday) afternoon, and the Samaroo brothers them run out on me with three cutlass. And them man start beating me up. When I catch me self, I get a chop in me head, I get blackout,” King recounted.

He said none of the attackers were masked. According to King, the men all live at Ogleton Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, just a few houses away from him.
King said he regained consciousness at the New Amsterdam Hospital, where he was taken by the sister of one of the alleged attackers. It was there, he said, that he realised the $250,000 he had in his pocket was missing.
The father of two said he has no idea why he was targeted, claiming that he had no known dispute with the men.
However, his family told this publication that the alleged attackers were friends of King, but would allegedly take advantage of him when he was intoxicated.
According to relatives, the men would take his money when he was under the influence of alcohol and would become violent when King resisted their demands. They alleged that the same men had previously taken $75,000 from him.
King said he has made several reports to the police about the alleged incidents, but expressed disappointment with what he described as a lack of urgency in locating the men.
“I made ’nuf report at the station. Everytime the police come looking for them, they hiding. Police said they gon’ come and look for them, they gave me number the last time before I get this (chop). I called the police, they said they gon’ come. They ain’t come. I fearful of these men,” King said.
He further alleged that one of the men threatened to kill him just one day before the latest attack.
King’s sister recalled the panic she felt after receiving a call from her niece informing her that her brother had been chopped and was “bleeding out.”
When she arrived at the hospital, she found King lying on a stretcher.
“He whole face swell up big, big, he ears swell up, he back get a set of broadside,” she said.
The woman said the relationship between King and the three men had previously been one of friendship.
“All of them was friends. When them want things, them go by he and they get it. They would cook, drink. But when they broke, them does rob him his money. It’s a regular thing,” she alleged.
King was admitted to the New Amsterdam Hospital, where he spent a week recovering.
He sustained a single chop wound to his head, which required multiple staples. He also has several scars on his back, which he said resulted from being broadsided with the cutlasses during the attack.
King continues to suffer from constant headaches and vomiting. He is scheduled to undergo a CT scan at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation on Monday.
Meanwhile, the three men named by King as his alleged attackers are reportedly on the run.
