DCC Annual Cricket Summer Camp wraps up fruitful 2026 edition
– Minister Jacobs delivers feature address to young cricketers
Kaieteur Sports – Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) brought down the curtain on their annual summer camp this past Friday, with the next crop of players making huge strides in their young careers.
After a few weeks of going through the fundamental learning process of becoming professional cricketers from gurus such as former Guyana/West Indies all-rounder Roger Harper, the camp ended on Friday with a feature address from Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Steven Jacobs.
Coaches, players, among others, flanked by the newest batch of graduates following the conclusion of the DCC Annual Cricket Summer Camp on Friday.
As compulsory, the players were exposed to a wide array of cricket areas, which entailed fitness, batting/fielding/bowling drills, along with other crucial areas of pre-match aspects of getting oneself mentally prepped ahead of a game.
Minister Jacobs, who took some time to attend the closing and graduation ceremony of the Demerara Cricket Club Summer Youth Cricket Camp, spoke to the large turnout of youngsters.

A former Guyana and West Indies U-19 all-rounder, Minister Jacobs made a smooth transition from a young player learning his craft in camps such as this, before carving out a brilliant career as one of Guyana’s key members within the then Guyana Jaguars franchise to now one of the country’s youngest ministers.
Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Steven Jacobs delivered the feature address to commemorate the closing of the 2026 DCC Annual Cricket Summer Camp.
Jacobs shared words of encouragement with the young players aged from U-12 to U-19 group, while assisting in the presentation ceremony of the certificates and awards to the camp’s top performers who have been earmarked for bright things in the future.
The Minister meanwhile celebrated the dedication, discipline, and development throughout the programme, which was exhibited by the youths.
Following the camp, the players were then presented with their certificates along with other trinkets to commemorate the individual success of the camp as well as the progression and overall growth of possibly the next crop of Guyana stars.
