(Kaieteur News) – The Ministry of Public Works is seeking a new contractor to complete the Princes Street Road widening project in Georgetown after the initial contract was terminated in December 2025.
The National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) disclosed that the ministry requested bids for the “Rehabilitation/construction of Princes Street-Cemetery Road to St. Stephens Street (1070m)”. Seven bids were since received for the project.
Contractors submitted bids between $1.7 billion and $2.9 billion to execute the works.
Subject minister Juan Edghill and his team visited the project site back in December where he announced that the $631 million contract to Yhardram & Sons Construction Establishment has been terminated due to poor performance.
“The contractor has failed to execute his contractual obligations. Not only did he fail to execute his contractual obligations, but he also left the thoroughfare in a mess, causing inconvenience to residents and other users,” the minister was quoted in a Department of Public Information article.
At the time, Edghill said that the ministry’s Special Projects Unit (SPU) will take over the project and do road works so as to improve traffic flow and accessibility along the critical corridor.
