(Kaieteur News) – In Guyana’s dynamic landscape of industries, the quest for precision and reliability is an unavoidable journey. The Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) has emerged as a steadfast ally for local sectors, providing indispensable calibration services that contribute significantly to the reliability and excellence of diverse industries.
For over 15 years, the GNBS has been calibrating instruments used to measure temperature, pressure, dimensions, mass, volume, electricity and torque. Standards used in calibration by our Industrial Metrology and Testing (IMT) Department are traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), PTB Germany and other highly recognized National Measurement Institutes (NMIs) in South America and the Caribbean.
The range of GNBS calibration services spans various sectors, including manufacturing, healthcare, agriculture, food and technology. From precision instruments in laboratories to machinery on production floors, GNBS ensures that every measuring instrument calibrated is within required tolerance, fostering reliability and precision across industries.
From January to May of 2026, the IMT Department has already calibrated 1,168 measuring instruments including balances, multimeters, pressure gauges, calipers and micrometers. The sum also includes bimetallic, liquid in glass and dial thermometers for manufacturing, health and public security sectors.
Being able to access reliable calibration services is essential. These services assist local manufacturers and other stakeholders with legal and quality assurance requirements which guarantee the production of quality goods and trustworthy services. This enhances their market competitiveness and ensures accurate diagnosis and treatment during patient care.
GNBS boasts a team of qualified laboratory technicians equipped with the expertise to calibrate a diverse array of measuring instruments. For them, the commitment to providing reliable calibration services is an ongoing endeavor. Meanwhile regular updates to equipment and methodologies ensure that the GNBS remains aligned with standards, offering local industries access to the latest advancements in calibration technology.
On May 20, GNBS will join the global community to observe World Metrology Day, under the theme: ‘Metrology: Building trust in policy making’. This year, the GNBS will be hosting the Sistema Interamericano de Metrologia (SIM) Mid-Term Council and Quality System Task Force (QSTF) Meetings for the first time. The meetings are scheduled for May 11-15, 2026, and bring together regional and international stakeholders who are focused on strengthening collaboration, enhancing quality systems and advancing measurement standards across the Americas.
GNBS encourages companies and laboratories to submit their measuring instruments for calibration. Service requests can be made by visiting https://gnbsgy.org/metrology/industrial-metrology/. Upon completion of the calibration process, a certificate or report is issued by the GNBS to show that the instrument was calibrated.
For further information contact GNBS on telephone numbers: 219-0064-66 or WhatsApp 692-4627. You can also visit our website:www.gnbsgy.org and our Facebook page: gnbsgy.
