Kaieteur Sports – West Coast Warriors whipped Empire Strikers by a handsome, 95-run margin in the continuation of the 2026 Commonwealth Cricket League 30-over tournament on Sunday at Westbury High School in New York.
Warriors have now registered two victories from as many matches. They are sitting at the top of the points’ table with Row Rangers also snapping two wins but in second position with 4 points as well.
After they were invited to take first knock against Empire Strikers, Warriors tallied up a competitive 176-8 at the expiration of the 30-overs.
Empire Strikers, in reply, collapsed for 81 in the 21st over.
Warriors were indebted to all-rounder Javed Shafeek who hit a resilient, unbeaten 62. Warriors tottering at 93-8 after 20 overs, however, Shafeek batted with a great degree of confidence to slam three sixes and caressed four fours.
During his 58-ball occupation at the crease, Shafeek and Deonarine Phagoo (24*) ensured there was no more fuss as they stitched together a vital, unbroken 83-run ninth-wicket partnership.
On a pitch deemed tricky in chilly conditions, medium-pacer Sid Bari churned out a pulsating, bowling performance for Empire Strikers by claiming 5-33 from his maximum six overs while Ahmed Shafayet supported with 2-40 off six overs.
When Empire Strikers batted, Shafayet gave his team’s innings some amount of respectability with a fighting 17 as Warriors’ spin-pace combination made a mess of them.
Off-spinner Akib Mullin took 3-12 from three tidy overs and left-arm pacer Kenly Adams also accounted for three victims but he conceded 21 runs from his six-over stint. Anthony Providence was in the wicket-column too capturing 2-0 off a mere three deliveries.
Meanwhile, the action will continue on Sunday in this Zone A 6-team tournament. Warriors will come up against Row Rangers in their next outing while Empire Strikes will face off with Whim Boyz.
The competition is slated to conclude in September.
