(Kaieteur News) – Inspired by her mother’s resilience, 28-year-old Hebron Edwards decided to take a leap of faith five years ago and started her own business – The Little Gift Box.

The Little Gift Box which officially launched on August 1, 2020, Edwards in an interview with this publication said it all started from a vacant room at her home. She shared that at the time, she did not have all the resources or certainty, but she had a clear vision which is to create meaningful gifting experiences that help people celebrate life’s special moments in a thoughtful and beautiful way.

According to the young woman, entrepreneurship, for her was inspired by resilience. This resilience she recalled was that she grew up watching my mother work tirelessly through challenges to provide for her family.

“I witnessed both her struggles and her determination, and those experiences shaped my mindset. They taught me that success is not about avoiding setbacks, but about persevering through them. That foundation became the driving force behind my decision to start my own business,” Edwards explained.

For those who have not heard of The Little Gift Box, the business over the years has evolved beyond gifting. The Little Gift Box has now expanded its offerings to include fresh flowers, customized gifts, and services that support both personal and corporate clients.

She disclosed that within the first year, it expanded into a physical storefront, “a milestone that represented not just business growth, but proof that hard work and belief in your vision can transform humble beginnings into something impactful.”

Speaking on her entrepreneurial journey, she shared that like many others, there have been challenges.

According to her, there were moments of uncertainty, financial pressure, and difficult decisions. “However, each obstacle strengthened my leadership, sharpened my business skills, and deepened my understanding of what it truly means to build something from the ground up,” she related.

Given all that she has experienced, Edwards expressed that she is proud of how far she has come, but is as even more excited about what lies ahead.

What lies ahead, she Edwards informed this newspaper that her ultimate long-term goal is to position The Little Gift Box as Guyana’s premier gifting and floral brand, “A company recognized for innovation, exceptional service, and meaningful customer experiences. I also envision expanding our footprint with additional branches and strengthening our wholesale and corporate services to better support businesses and communities across the country,” she said.

With a mission to continue growing with intention, delivering value to its customers, and inspiring others to believe that with determination and faith, anything is possible, Edwards said she is deeply passionate about creating opportunities for others.

“I want this company to be a platform that empowers young people, especially women, to pursue entrepreneurship, develop skills, and build sustainable careers,” she mentioned.

“Importantly both the public and private sectors should intentionally support local entrepreneurs by prioritizing partnerships and procurement from small businesses. When small businesses are strengthened it means the entire economy becomes more resilient and inclusive. As entrepreneurs, there is a great need for collaboration over competition as well to boost our own businesses, in this growing economy, most small businesses cannot afford to play in the big league by themselves so collaboration is definitely needed to boost small businesses,” she added.
