(Kaieteur News) – Dem boys seh one man get pull over by the police for speeding so fast that the traffic light had to ask him to slow down because it was still trying to turn green. The officer walk up to the car and seh, “Boss, you know you were doing 120 kilometres per hour in a 60 zone?”
The man calmly wind down he window and seh, “Officer, I have a very good reason. I am a doctor and I am rushing to the hospital. I am responding to an emergency.”
The policeman look at him, salute and seh, “Doctor, that is a serious matter. We appreciate people like you saving lives.”
Then the officer walk back to his patrol car, write the ticket, and come back.
The doctor look shocked. “But officer, I told you I was going to save a life!”
The policeman smile and seh, “And I believe you. That is why I only give you a speeding ticket and not a ticket for driving like you were trying to save the entire population.”
Dem boys seh Guyana does got plenty people who driving through life with the same excuse: “I was doing it for a good cause.” Some people breaking rules because they rushing to help. Some breaking rules because they rushing to get ahead. And some breaking rules because they believe the traffic laws were written for everybody else.
Every time somebody get caught doing something wrong, suddenly a noble explanation appear. The man who park in front of a fire hydrant say he was only “stopping for two minutes.” The contractor who block the road say he was “creating development.” The fella who cut the line of traffic say he was “late for an important appointment.”
Dem boys seh if excuses could generate electricity, Guyana would never need dem powerships.
But the funniest thing is that everybody wants understanding when they are the ones breaking the rules, but they want the full weight of the law when somebody else does it.
The speeding doctor story does teach one thing though. A good intention does not always cancel a bad action. Saving lives is important, but so is making sure you do not become the emergency case on the way to the emergency.
Dem boys seh the road to hell might be paved with good intentions, but in Guyana some people trying to get there ahead of the speed limit.
Talk half. Leff half.
