(Kaieteur News) – Three farmers, including a husband and wife, were killed following an alleged confrontation at Aranka Village, Baramita, North West District, on Saturday.
Dead are: Joy John, 40, her husband, Amar Thomas, 38, and Tony Williams, 62.
Police said the incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. on September 19, 2026. Preliminary investigations revealed that John and Thomas lived together with their five-year-old son at a camp in the area, while Williams resided at another camp approximately 20 miles away.
According to police, Williams went to John and Thomas’ camp, where an argument allegedly developed between him and John. During the confrontation, Williams allegedly chopped John to her neck with a cutlass. Thomas, who was reportedly returning from his farm, subsequently confronted Williams. The two men then allegedly became involved in an altercation during which they inflicted injuries on each other with sharp objects.
John was found motionless at the camp, while Thomas was found approximately 50 feet away. Williams was later found about 100 feet from the camp along a track. Police ranks visited the location on Sunday and examined the bodies.
John was observed with a wound to her neck, while Thomas had a stab wound to his left groin. Williams had a stab wound to the left side of his chest. The three bodies were taken to the Baramita Cottage Hospital, where a doctor pronounced them dead on arrival. They were subsequently placed in the hospital mortuary pending post-mortem examinations.
