(Kaieteur News) – A 32-year-old vendor of ‘D’ Field, Sophia, is now in police custody after allegedly failing to comply with a stop signal during a mobile patrol in Sophia, leading to the discovery of a firearm, ammunition and a ski mask in the vehicle.
Police said the driver was signalled to stop after he was observed acting in a “suspicious manner.” He and a 40-year-old female passenger, a waitress of Durban Street, Lodge, are now in custody.
According to the Guyana Police Force, the incident occurred on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at about 17:45hrs during an operation on Red Road, Sophia. Ranks on mobile patrol observed a white Toyota Allion motorcar proceeding in the opposite direction, with the driver behaving suspiciously. The driver reportedly ignored instructions to stop, resulting in a chase.
The vehicle was intercepted further north on Red Road, Sophia, where the driver was arrested and escorted, along with the motorcar, to the Turkeyen Police Station. A search conducted in his presence uncovered a ski mask containing a silver and black .380 Lorcin pistol, along with seven rounds of .380 ammunition.
