(Kaieteur News) – An accountant is now admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHCH) after being robbed at knifepoint along with a colleague in the wee hours of Monday morning at the Kitty seawall.
Police said in a statement that the incident occurred around 02:50hrs. “Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were walking on the southern side of the Kitty Seawall Road, proceeding west, when they were confronted by two identifiable males who had been sitting on the seawall, one of whom was armed with a knife,” police said.
The men allegedly approached the victim and demanded they hand over money. One of the victims pushed the armed suspect and attempted to run away, he was chased and he fell to the ground. During the ordeal he was stabbed several times. The suspects then fled on foot in an easterly direction along the seawall road.
Ranks of the Guyana Police Force arrived at the scene and escorted the victims to the GPHC. The injured victim was examined by a doctor on duty and admitted as a patient. He sustained a stab wound to the right side of his chest and his condition is listed as critical. “With the aid of cameras from the Government of Guyana Safe City Initiative, one suspect, a 24-year-old mason of ‘C’ Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown, was arrested and is presently in police custody assisting with investigations. Checks are being made for the other suspect,” police said.
Investigations are ongoing.
