GGMC shuts down unlicensed gold shop at Tamakay Landing
(Kaieteur News) – The Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) Enforcement Team on Monday suspended the operations of a shop at Tamakay Landing in the Mazaruni Mining District after it was found trading gold without the required approvals and licences.
According to the Ministry of Natural Resources, the enforcement team, during an inspection on September 28, seized a quantity of gold, equipment and cash from the establishment.
The gold, equipment and cash that were seized by the GGMC.
Two persons were also detained by the Guyana Police Force as investigations continue.
The ministry said the action forms part of its ongoing crackdown on illegal mining and related activities, with monitoring and enforcement operations continuing across the country’s mining districts.
It urged all stakeholders in the mining sector to ensure that their operations comply with the relevant laws, regulations and licensing requirements.
The ministry said enforcement efforts will continue as authorities move to curb illegal activities within the sector.
