(Kaieteur News) – The Public Utilities Commission 2025 Report revealed that a total of $23,359,258 in credit was awarded to consumers in 2025, following complaints to the commission.
The amount covered adjustments to bills, penalties for breach of service standards and reimbursement for undelivered services.
“Credits were applied to the accounts of 13 consumers who had filed their complaints in the previous year and had their matters resolved in 2025. This brought the total credits applied to consumer accounts in 2025 to $23,359,258,” the report said.
Giving a break down by utility companies, GPL dished out $9,391,779, while GWI $135,240. One Communications returned $678,209 to customers, taking that total to $10,205,22.
Meanwhile the 2024 report showed the total awarded for that year was $13, 810,338 benefitting 111 consumers.
“In 2024, a total of $7,523,891 was awarded to consumers who filed complaints with the commission for compensation for damages, billing adjustments, penalties for breach of service standards and reimbursements for undelivered services,” it said.
There were also additional credit adjustments and compensation which were awarded to cases prior which were resolved in 2024.
In addition, credit adjustments and compensation were awarded to prior cases resolved in 2024. This brought the total credit awarded for the year to $13, 810,338.
By company, GPL took the lead with $ 5,998,986, GWI with $730,225 and OneComm with $794,680.
