Dear Editor,
Our illustrious government is making a mockery of what we understand as democracy, beyond the question of taking over streets, they are now taking over the Georgetown Municipal Training school, upper Water Street. This plot of land from Water Street to the Demerara River was originally the municipal water works.
Later during my incumbency as mayor, it was refurbished and used as a training center for staff, and as a storage facility for historical documents relating to Georgetown. I learnt that with neither a modicum of discussion nor consultation, the Government has taken over this facility. I say no further at this time except to quip again that this government’s interpretation of democracy seems to be “demons gone crazy”. Editor and citizens be reminded that big, bad, bullies can be beaten.
Sincerely,
Elder Hamilton Green
