(Kaieteur News) – A 35-year-old miner lost his life tragically on Wednesday after reportedly falling overboard while piloting a small boat along the Pomeroon River.
Dead is Zandon Daniels of Wakapao Mission, Lower Pomeroon River.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred around 14:30hrs in the vicinity of Yacouri Creek as Daniels was captaining a wooden boat powered by a 15-horsepower outboard engine en route to Massarrie Mission.
The lone passenger aboard told investigators that he was seated at the front of the vessel when the engine suddenly cut off. Upon turning to check what had happened, Daniels had mysteriously disappeared. The passenger immediately plunged into the water in a desperate attempt to locate him, but his efforts proved unsuccessful.
Residents in the area were alerted, prompting a search operation. After several hours, Daniels’ body was recovered from the river. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
