Cyclist killed in collision with truck at Rome

(Kaieteur News) – A 24-year-old construction worker lost his life on Thursday afternoon after being struck by a truck along the Rome Access Road, East Bank Demerara.

Dead is Shawn Roache of Lot 99, Second Street, Agricola. The fatal accident occurred around 13:50hrs, sending shockwaves through the community as yet another road death was recorded on the busy corridor. According to information received, the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, as the Guyana Police Force (GPF) has yet to issue an official statement.

However, reports indicate that the collision involved a motor lorry, GAK 7143, with an attached trailer, TYY 9718, owned by Saj Rice Group Incorporated. At the time, the truck was being driven by a 30-year-old driver from North Public Road, Little Abary, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara.

The Guyana Police Force responded quickly to the scene, where investigations are currently ongoing. Attempts to reach Deputy Commissioner of Police Simon McBean, Commander of Police Division 4A, for further comment were unsuccessful.
