(Kaieteur News) – Fifteen-year-old Tiana Chapman, who was stabbed more than 25 times by the father of her child, is relieved that her attacker has been apprehended and is in police custody but is pleading for justice.
The mother of one, in her first interview since the brutal ordeal, told Kaieteur News that she is feeling better. She said, “I feel alright, feel more safe” but wants the arms of justice to hasten its work.
Chapman, who is now on a steady path to recovery said, “I’m feeling much better. I’m just getting lil pain.”
The teen is adamant that her attacker, 28-year-old Christopher Ali must be punished for her stabbing noting that she would be satisfied with “life in prison.”
The Pepper Street, Edinburgh Village, East Bank Berbice resident was at a friend’s house not far from her home on February 24, when her ex-boyfriend attacked her with a knife and left her in a pool of blood.
The young mom told Kaieteur News that Ali physically abused her during their relationship and disclosed that the week before the brutal stabbing, he hinted at killing her.
“A day he call me on a number, and he seh he wants to see his baby. I did carry the baby for him to see. He said plait his hair. I did plait his hair. Ah seh ‘man ah going home now’, and then ah open the door. He get this scissors in he hand, and he said ‘is best I kill yuh hay suh and done’,” she recounted.
She continued: “He has a bad character. He’s aggressive, he lies, he’s abusive,” she summed up, adding too that their 11-month child receives no paternal maintenance. At most, she said Ali would request to see his child.
Recalling the evening where she almost lost her life, Chapman said Ali snuck into the home while it was dark. Earlier, he visited the friend’s home, but she instructed her friend to tell him she was not there. Later on, she had accompanied her friend to bathe, when she was attacked from behind. Her friend, she said, ran upstairs, and Ali made good his escape.
The teen was rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital where she was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). She was discharged two weeks later, but Ali was still at large, and this created concerns about her well-being. Last Friday, however, he was caught.
Ali was handed over to the police in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), but not before he was assaulted by vigilantes while he ventured up the Berbice River. He had successfully evaded police for two weeks since stabbing Chapman more than 25 times, but word of his sighting at the location circulated.
In videos seen around social media, Ali sustained chop wounds to his hands and feet, and was seen tied up in a boat by individuals who captured him and were heard chiding him for his gruesome act.
Meanwhile, Ali remains in police custody. (Shermon Hawker)
